Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor on the set of "Giant," 1955.

Mrs. J.T. Wilson holds a turkey that she shot for Thanksgiving dinner. San Antonio, 1927.

November 21, 1963.  The day before the fateful day in Dallas.
Houston Texas 1956
John Wayne and the lovely Carole Landis in the 1939 film "Three Texas Steers." The film is set in the mythical Mesquite county, Texas.
Market day in Cleburne, circa 1900. Can you imagine what this scene smelled like? (Commerce?)
Roy Rogers and Trigger in front of the Arcadia Theater in Temple, 1943
Uvalde's own Dale Evans
Traces of Texas reader Mary Maxwell sent in this incredible 1951 shot of her friend Billie Veach standing in front of Billie's parent's drive-in in Bryan, TX. This place was called "The Humdinger" and was popular with Texas A&M students. It was located at the intersection of College and Sulphur Springs. That's Billie's father looking out the window in the background.

A family at a drive-in restaurant in Houston (this might be Bill Williams on South Main across from the Tidelands Motel) gets cold, air conditioned air pumped into their Cadillac as they eat their meal, 1957.
This awesomely clear photo of Prince's Drive-In in Houston. It was taken by his father on February 22,1957 the day before it opened on North Shepherd Drive. Prince's was the hot spot for custom cars and pretty carhops to be the place to see and be seen on Friday and Saturday nights. This opening was a Heights social event, with the Reagan High School band playing for the ribbon cutting by Doug Prince himself. This prince's operated until 1980.
Moving a house the old fashioned way near Harlingen, 1938. This photo was taken by Anthony Stewart for a National Geographic article that extolled the myriad virtues of Texas
Traces of Texas reader Gary Wood kindly sent in this photo of a 1926 Chevy truck that is buried deep in the woods near Centerville. The truck is still in the same family that bought it new. The owner of the truck is the grandson of the original owner and said it was brought to the area in 1927.
Traces of Texas reader Russell Webb graciously submitted this ASTOUNDINGLY GREAT photo of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, which Russell took in 1974 in Huntsville. George, of course, was from the east Texas Beaumont/Vidor/Saratoga area.
George Jones and Tammy “Whynot”. George was born in Saratoga, Texas and raised in Vidor, and it was no less than Waylon Jennings who said, "If we all could sound like we wanted to, we'd all sound like George Jones."

Ed Konarek's blacksmith shop in Taylor, 1915. A couple of hard-working Texans, no doubt!
